This is strange. I have thought that ALSA was ok again..must check. As for 
Jack, I don't see why it shouldn't connect.

Well, static builds are meant to be executed with the very same version of 
the "missing" libs, at the time i have compiled this under SuSE 9.3, at least 
I think so.

Which static build have you tried? Have you tried to launch static Freecycle 
with gdb?

I think I should rebuild those builds again anyways....

Did you try the MAINTENANCE_0_6_ALPHA branch ?(I suppose you are talking about 
CVS) What are the compile errors?
