For others,
Avati is now working on a user-space gratuitous ARP daemon for mini
BMCs that doesnt support GARPs. You will be able to provide a list of
IP addresses that has to be GARP'd in the config file. If you want to
understand more about GARP, follow these links...

Avati is a very talented free software hacker with rich experience in

This is for Avati,
address@hidden:~# tcpdump -i eth1 host -vv
tcpdump: listening on eth1, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size
96 bytes
18:30:12.969399 arp who-has (Broadcast) tell
18:30:15.469184 arp who-has (Broadcast) tell
18:30:17.969138 arp who-has (Broadcast) tell
18:30:20.469463 arp who-has (Broadcast) tell
18:30:22.969169 arp who-has (Broadcast) tell
18:30:25.469242 arp who-has (Broadcast) tell
18:30:27.969319 arp who-has (Broadcast) tell

Looking at the tcpdump for SR870BN4 ( (Tiger4 Quad
Itanium2 platform), Intel's Sahalee BMC (IPMI-1.5) uses "Request Based
Gratuitous ARP". So in your initial release of garpd use this approach
We will plan for "Response Based Gratuitous ARP" in the next release.
