Looks like it's doing it for /dev/random as well.  What would you recommend 
doing to my configure script to get passed this in the meantime?

Hmmm.  This is definitely new to me.  I can only assume it's something
unique for your embedded environment (other folks that have done some
embedded porting have not hit this).

I could make a configure option to turn off checks for this.
