Hello Albert,
I had some over-heating issues with my office linux-PC that forced me to replace a couple of fans and the whole CPU cooling system.

That's why I'd really like to have in place free-ipmi as my monitoring tool.

As root I installed latest free-ipmi 1.2.8 on

. GIGABYTE GA-EP45-EXTREME motherboard
. slackware 13.37
. kernel 2.6.37.6-smp
. 1 Intel Quad CPU    Q9550

but and I keep getting that "internal IPMI error".

I don't know where to look anymore, here some output I can provide:

# ipmi-sensors --debug
Caching SDR repository information: /root/.freeipmi/sdr-cache/sdr-cache-campra.localhost
=====================================================
Get SDR Repository Info Request
=====================================================
KCS Header:

[               0h] = lun[ 2b]
[               Ah] = net_fn[ 6b]
IPMI Command Data:
------------------
[              20h] = cmd[ 8b]
ipmi_sdr_cache_create: internal IPMI error

# bmc-info --debug
=====================================================
Get Device ID Request
=====================================================
KCS Header:
------------
[               0h] = lun[ 2b]
[               6h] = net_fn[ 6b]
IPMI Command Data:
------------------
[               1h] = cmd[ 8b]
ipmi_cmd_get_device_id: driver timeout

Here my 'lsmod' output, maybe you know if something is causing conflicts:
