For your information what I have found here is a (very recently) known
problem in 1.7.x on MSWin32. So it sounds like FR users on Windows
will have to wait a bit more to see a fully working FR.
I guess it also impact the addInput() method in FXRuby but I'm
speaking under the control of Lyle here.

Nobu Nakada posted a comment at the and but I'm not sure if this is a
workaround that I can use in FR or if he is commenting on how things
can be fixed internally in Ruby. Any idea?
