I can't reproduce the bug on my machine (MDK 9, FOX 1.0.26, FXRuby 
1.0.16).

Rich reported some time ago that the scintilla widget was having 
problems in FXRuby 1.0.17. This might be you are experiencing. I 
suggest that you downgrade to FXRuby 1.0.16. This is the supported 
version right now.
