Keith still brings it up on occasion on one list or another -- as
recently as this week on address@hidden  So he at least is still
championing it.

I've been investigating it again as well this past week or so.

fonttosfnt still needs a couple of tweaks, consensus may not have yet
beenr reached on what extra sfnt tags are needed to convey all of the
info in the bdf, so that they can be reconstructed.  And mkfontdir(1x)
and mkfontscale(1x) need to be updated to read said extra info.

I'm also planning on trying to push gentoo (the dist I most often run)
to early-adopt use of sfnt bitmaps rather than pcf.  I trust all of
the dists will be happy with a substantial reduction in the quantity
of files that need to be installed to handle all of the encodings and
strikes currently supported....
