Hi Alexei,

I tried building the library as you suggested. 

$ cd freetype2

$ ./configure CFLAGS="-DFT2_BUILD_LIBRARY"  

$ make clean all -j4

$ cd freetype2-demos

$ make

I recompiled the freetype2 library using the above commands.But still, the ftgrid file produces undefined

 reference error (Please correct me if I'm doing something wrong here).As for the reference,

It is vice versa, you should build ftgrid with FT2_BUILD_LIBRARY so
that it gets full access to FreeType internals.
