Another try at an overview of various points, incorporating the latest
comments, and adding some stuff I found in a dutch book (and omitting some as
well ;-):
1 Fournier point:
0.3479 mm (1737)
1 Didot point:
0.3759259 mm -- based on a "pied du Roi" ("Kings foot") around 1775 (?)
0.3759398 mm -- based on the meter by Hermann Berthold, 19th century
0.3760650 mm -- later refinement, taking the temperature into account...
1 Pica point:
0.013837 inch (1886) -- this equals to 0.3514598 mm, according to the inch
of 1959
1 Knuth point:
0.351459803514598 mm (this is 0.000000003514598 mm more than the standard
pica point)
1 Adobe point:
0.352777777778 mm
I agree with Antoine that the Adobe point is the only relevant value these days.
