[Freetype] 8 point monochrome text - is it me??

Hi all,

I renderd the word 'logging' using the arial.ttf font
supplied with Windows 2000 in monochrome 1 bit per pixel mode with freetype.
But it comes out wrong...

Is it me, or is freetype not so good at low point-size monochrome?

I've attached a small example.. I hope you don't mind..
