Oooh! I always thought you were talking about Freetype 2!
Freetype 1 still uses an oold configure script (autoconf 2.13, libtool
1.3.4), and I fear it won't do what you want. It requires some work
to update the libtool and autoconf stuff to recent versions -- any
volunteer on the list? I don't have the time to do that.
So it's not your fault. Maybe you can compile it manually: Call your
script within the FreeType 2 library to see what libtool actually
does, then repeat this for the files in FreeType 1.
