What exactly do you mean with `conversion'? FreeType can't produce a
bitmap font directly -- use e.g. fontforge for that (fontforge.sf.net;
formerly called pfaedit).
If you mean the rasterization of an outline font as a bitmap to be
e.g. displayed on a screen, then FreeType is the right library for
you.
