I'm not sure if this is a problem with freetype or with something
higher up like pango, but I'm seeing a problem with letters being placed
too close together. It's affecting capital letters followed by lower
case letters.
I'm comparing a RedHat 9 system with a Fedora Core 3 system using
Bitstream Vera Sans. The RH9 system looks fine while the letters look
cramped under FC3. I've attached samples from both.
The two systems are running:
RH9:
freetype-2.1.3-6
pango-1.2.1-3
FC3:
freetype-2.1.9-1
pango-1.6.0-7
I've recompiled freetype on both systems to enable the bytecode
interpreter and added the patch from here:
http://www.freetype.org/pipermail/devel/2004-November/011165.html
to 2.1.9. Apart from that, they're stock installations.
I'm not sure how to go about debugging this.
Robert
