I've just tried this by myself, and I can't repeat your problems.
I did the following steps:
. Unpack FreeType.
. Delete all directories in `src' which I don't want to use; I've
only retained
base
Jamfile
psnames
raster
sfnt
tools
truetype
(Deletion is necessary since `make' uses wildcards to process
subdirectories.)
. Use the attached `modules.cfg' and `ftoption.h' files.
. Do the usual calls to configure and make.
Linking with a simple demo programs renders just fine.
Just for reference, I've also attached the file `ftmodule.h' which
gets created automatically during the `configure' step.
