I would hope that would be true of all rendering engines, e.g.
FreeType, Cairo, Blender Cycles etc. Gamma and colour profiling are
issues for on-screen display, image input and image storage/interchange
formats. And in the latter, one would expect that this information can
be stored non-destructively, i.e. without having to alter stored pixel
values.
Rendering calculations are easiest if pixels are considered to be in
a linear colour space.
