The W3C has just announced a new "royalty free" patent policy,
superceding their prior, widely-criticised, "reasonable and
non-discriminatory" (RAND) principles.
All W3C contributors will now have to legally commit themselves
to making patents available on royalty-free terms.

As the W3C is the de facto standards body for HTML, CSS etc.
this is a big win for the anti-software-patent lobby!
