Hello,
Following today's Annual Conference of the Association for Free Software, and
after finishing my part of the work on an FFII grassroots lobbying project,
I've turned my mind to a more general lobbying guide. The idea is to produce
a document that any activist can pick up and read, and that will not only
make them more confident (and so hopefully make more people lobby) but also
make them more effective.
As soon as I finish my exams (June 6th) I'd like to start work on this...
BUT... I need people to tell me what to cover, and I'd appreciate help in
writing it, since I'm hardly an expert in any of these areas, though I've run
a few tutorials on it, and I definitely don't have muc experience of lobbying
companies!
For those who haven't yet seen it, my first step in this project was the
following guidee I co-wrote for/with the FFII:
http://wiki.ael.be/index.php/MEP-Position-Lobbying-Guide
Here's a list of things I do intend to cover. If I've missed anything, or if
you'd like specific notes on particular areas, please get back to me. I'll
post my work in progress, so we can work on it that way, but I'd prefer to at
least have an idea of the scope of the project.
1. Some very general introduction
2. Researching the subject you're going to lobby on
3. Lobbying an MP
3.1 Finding out about your MP
3.2 Contacting your MP (letters, phone calls)
3.3 Following up on the initial contact, and influencing them
3.4 Meeting your MP
4. Lobbying an MEP
4.1 Finding out about your MEP
4.2 Differences between MEPs and MPs as regards lobbying
5. Lobbying organisations
5.1 I'll need help on companies!!!
That's all I can think of for now. So please, comments :)
Regards,
Tom
