Hi all,
Version 2 of the government OSS policy is finally out. There's also an
(IMO) really excellent report on open source software trials in
government.
Both linked to from:
http://www.govtalk.gov.uk/policydocs/consult_subject_document.asp?docnum=905
Funniest bit for me: (section 5.2 - Role of systems integrators in
adoption of OSS) "many service providers running outsourced services for
public sector bodies seem uncertain about providing services to support
the Open Source environment. This is surprising since most service
providers ... are running significant elements of their own
infrastructure on Linux today... There can be a lack of communication
between the commercial operators of the outsourcing contracts and the
technical teams within..."
In other words, some of the contractors have got so big that their phbs
have no idea what is running on their own computers.. :-)
