If you're quick (i.e. before 12th Nov) you should be able to get Ubuntu CDs 
shipped to you for free:

In case you've not come across it, Ubuntu is a new Debian GNU/Linux based 
distro. which is aimed at (among other things) making Debian easier to 
install & use, while preserving the 100% commitment to Free Software.

I have played with the Ubuntu live CD briefly, and it looks good.  I've not 
actually installed it yet, but I know quite a few people who have, and have 
been impressed by it.
