Paul: What's going on at Manchester? RMS was there recently...
Are you talking to me? How the blazes would *I* know? I'm too busy
writing a EULA for my Facebook app that says your children belong to
me if I think they could work well in a cotton field...
RMS has been in town, 'tis true, and he's still on tour I believe. The
regular FSUK guys can tell you what they've been up to, but I don't
think there is much Uni action generally. Those students interested I
think will have already found FSUK.
At an infrastructure level, CLIP is limited to Windows at the moment.
Years back the Informatics department at UMIST ran some dual-boot kit,
but that proved too hard to maintain, and right now there isn't the
grass roots demand for it across campus.
That might change soon - there is still a plan, I believe, for more
WiFi and getting people out of labs and onto their own laptops. At
that point, everything is up for grabs and arranging something for
Fresher's Week with Compsoc (if they still exist) might be a plan,
especially if it involves giving discs away for free.
And I'll talk to the infrastructure guys and find out what they're up
to.
And somebody else can think of other stuff to do. :-P
