I am working to bring gnome-chemistry-utils to MacPorts. If one has the proper
goffice, and X11, it will install and run very nicely. I am writing to ask if
it is possible for you to use gtk3 to remove or abstract any direct dependence
on X11. Specifically, I want to be able to provide a port file that can
compile against the native OS X quartz environment, as gtk3 is capable of
doing, but there are some direct dependencies that require X11 and Mesa for
gnome-chemistry-utils to compile. Please bear in mind that I am not a
programmer, and cannot offer any other advise than to suggest consulting with
other developers, such as Inkscape or Gnumeric, whose latest releases are
capable of this. I also offer that investigation into X11 independence would
be useful to the linux releases of this software as well, since there is much
discussion into replacing X11 with Wayland once it is ready.
I hope that you will take this into sincere consideration.
Best regards,
