Greetings, and thanks you for following up, Brent!  You are exactly
right -- one needs gettext from fink on macosx.  As our macosx expert
is besieged by work at present, and as a recently discovered bug is
likely to cause a 2.6.3 release soon, would you mind writing up a
little README.macosx detailing the building instructions?
