Greetings!  I don't see why not, there should be no ansi related
obstacles remaining.  I will look into this once I get the Debian
packages going.

I also see you posted some very helpful patches for MacOS in the past
which I have missed -- thank you!  I have a windows and macos virtual
box setup locally which I use to test builds as a last step before
release.  In the old days I had remote machine access but this seems to
have disappeared.  In any case your work will no doubt be incorporated
at that point in the cycle.  Thank you again!

Reading your post quickly, I would be surprised if the commits you cite
caused duplicate symbols.  My guess is that gcc changed inline semantics
around the same time and we followed.  If I recall debian clang did
likewise.  The -std=gnu89 comment seems apropos.
