Probably you have to find out yourself ;)
(1) Search the controlcenter options (i guess, none)
(2) Try http://www.nongnu.org/gcmd/doc.html#mime
For example, MimeType of directories is x-directory/normal.
Note that the last entry in a ';' separated list is the default one (not
the first)
(3) If you don't use nautilus then what's left of gnome-session...
consider using gnome-commander, gnome-panel and a smart
desktop like wmaker, enlightenment, or fvwm ?
(4) Search (grep) ~/.gnome2 for any xml config about when to use nautilus
