I upgraded GC to 1.4.3 from Debian sid (leaving GTK at the version from
jessie) and it still works for me :o)

ii  libgtk2.0-0:i386                     2.24.24-1
 i386         GTK+ graphical user interface library
ii  libgtk2.0-0-dbg                      2.24.24-1
 i386         GTK+ libraries and debugging symbols
address@hidden:~$ dpkg -l | grep gnome-command
ii  gnome-commander                      1.4.3-1
 i386         nice and fast file manager for the GNOME desktop
ii  gnome-commander-data                 1.4.3-1
