Dear Daniel Heiserer,
I think may be here is a misunderstanding on the nature of GetFEM++. It is not
an structural analysis dedicated tool but a generic finite element method
library from which you can build some finite element codes using C++ or python.
You can see the tutorials to understand how to build such codes.

where is additional information to the mesh stored which is necessary for
structural analsysis.
such as:
- thickness for shells
- material properties such as youngs modulus, mass density, etc.
