[gfsd]FS Directory, tar

Hallo,
        I'd like to ask you for advice with FS Directory.
The fileutils maintainer mentioned he has no way to update the pages.

Are the instructions in http://www.gnu.org/help/directory.html
still valid?

The page contains a stale link: http://savanah.gnu.org/projects/quagga/
which was discouradging.  (Yes, Search on Savannah finds /gnulist/ but
the link from FS Directory help page doesn't work which suggests that
the project may not be alive.)

Do you think that it's important to have the Directory?
Are there some FS projects willing to be registered with the Directory
but not contained as part of the /software/ ?

Currently, it looks a bit like /software was duplicated to /directory
and /directory becomes now obsolete.  How do you see the fate of
/directory?
