Jesse,
  flock() functionality works for most cases by upgrading to the glusterfs
patched fuse available at -

http://ftp.zresearch.com/pub/gluster/glusterfs/fuse/

please let us know if that worked for you. It should work with the current
1.3.1 release itself.
