Self- heal not being done on open fds is a known issue and will be fixed. As far as the split brain scenarios, glusterfs can just identify that is a split-brain and manual intervention is needed to copy the correct file. Raghavendra,

Do you know what release are you planning on fixing the open file self heal bug? It appears to be the root cause of a lot of other critical issues and general misunderstands about what gluster is capable of doing. I don't see anything mentioned about this in the http://gluster.org/docs/index.php/GlusterFS_Roadmap
