the Media Player Connectivity extension allows you to set external
command line programs to handle embedded media in webpages.
http://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/446/
you can set gnash to play flash files. or mplayer to play avi, etc.
might be useful if you want to run gnash outside of firefox in case it crashes.
