I was looking over the FAQ just now and noticed this... http://wiki.gnewsense.org/Main/FAQ#toc4 In regard to the question of the Artistic License in gNewSense, the FAQ seems to imply that since the FSF does not consider the Original Artistic License to be a Free Software License, these packages need to be removed from gNewSense. At present there are two such packages that I know of: libfont-ttf-perl and libhtml-tableextract-perl On 7/7/07, Kevin Dean <address@hidden> wrote:
I've opened a bug marked "Major" that can be found http://bugs.gnewsense.org/Bugs/00099 The status of the Original Artistic License is unclear in gNewSense. Debian considers this license to be Free under the DFSG, but the Free Software Foundation believes it is ambiguous because of wording and has determined it to be non-free. This is not to be confused with the Modified or Clarified Artistic License which the FSF and Debian both consider to be Free Software. The resolution of this bug, either way, may impact at least one other bug containing potential non-free software in gNewSense and applies to bug #00001 (gNewSense Contains Non-free Software). -Kevin Dean
