The problem seemed to be Ubuntu bug 271994[1] and Debian bug
499629[2], which should be fixed in the next release of gNewSense that
is based on Ubunty 8.10 (from backports), Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04, or a
future version of Ubuntu.
