What does mount say if you call it after login ?
dmesg ?

might it be that there is some error in the /home filesystem ? 
/ was mounted readonly when in error but /home not, in the fstab you sent 
before. 
Ar both / and /home formatted the same ? Might it be some module missing in 
one of the two kernels ?
