Is there a way to check that my laptop (MacBookPro6,2) is actually going to sleep after the lid is closed?
Going in and out of hibernation is usually not instantaneous, so you should be able to tell from the screen output. You can also check the output of the 'dmesg' command for "freeze" or "hibernation".
To check if it had suspended, check 'dmesg' output for "suspend".
