I can't check right now, but I think that I've found the cause of the problem.
I was trying to use a root password with sudo.
(Looks like it's a common mistake.)
I understand the idea of this behavior, but I don't think it's a good
idea to use this on a server.
Is there a way to configure sudo to use another (not user's or root's) password?
