It doesn't probe any ports. AFAIK it just uses gnokii config.

As I said, it doesn't detect the phones. It uses the port given in the config
file.

In fact you can run multiple instances, but they need to run as different
users, as
you can't give gnokii/smsd a path to the config file at the moment.
