Hmm, maybe. I'm not sure what you need to do to make it work in
Debian. On my Fedora system the necessary driver is loaded when
I plug in the cable. Here's the relevant part of the output from
the dmesg command:
hub.c: connect-debounce failed, port 1 disabled
hub.c: new USB device 00:07.2-1, assigned address 2
usb.c: USB device 2 (vend/prod 0x22b8/0x5802) is not claimed by any active
driver.
usb-uhci.c: ENXIO 80000280, flags 0, urb c07f7e00, burb c07f7f00
usbdevfs: USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed dev 2 rqt 128 rq 6 len 9 ret -6
usb.c: registered new driver acm
ttyACM0: USB ACM device
acm.c: v0.21:USB Abstract Control Model driver for USB modems and ISDN
adapters
The acm driver is loaded and ttyACM0 is assigned.
