I do understand that I don't know much about what I am talking about,  but 
that doesn't look like the libtools home page or libtools documentation.....

I went to look it up on www.gnu.org and didn't find mention of it anywhere 
there under either libtool or automake/autoconf.....

Would it help if I gave you an openbsd box that you could log into to test 
this?
