compilation problem + smsd dies

hello people again.
first of all readme says
In some distributions of MySQL you need to link zlib
with smsd or db module.
Please add '-lz' to Makefile if smsd cannot load
libmysql.so.
Where exactly do i have to put -lz ????
it doesn't compile mysql module.

By using 0.6.5 smsd works after some time it keeps
working but no sms's are sent!!!
moreover sometimes instead of smsd it runs lt-smsd.
can you please help?i'm trying over a month and can't
make it work!
