Running locate gettext.m4 reveals that I do not have one. I installed
gettext-devel to get the file, but nothing changes. Still:
Perhaps try to grep for AM_GNU_GETTEXT macro.

That's in /usr/share/aclocal/iconv.m4 in Slackware and Ubuntu.
