No. And it doesn't make sense. If you want performance don't use
mobile terminal for that purpose but connect to SMSC. Normally you get
one SMS per 1-3 seconds (like you do when operating the phone).

No. Serial port is used exclusivly. It would be possible to change it
but it would require to have a daemon running in the background and
the applications (like wvdial, pppd, gnokii) connecting to that daemon
and not directly to the port.
