that's expected behaviour when you're using model=AT-HW or model=AT
with recent Nokias because Nokia didn't put the commands to read SMS
in at mode

since your phone is a "Series 40 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2" you must
use at least gnokii 0.6.27 to read SMS

this is the configuration that must work
model=series40
connection=dku2libusb
port=1
