It is not any more fundamentally obsolete or bad than most other
software out there.
We *know* that there are some fundamental issues with the current
implementation. We *know* for example that performance will never quite
match modern monolithic systems; that there are problems that can not be
fully solved within the current design.
This depends on what issues you are refering to. The two
(semi-serious) problems that Marcus pointed out wrt to passive
translators and firmlinks can be solved. As was pointed out by
Bushenell, and someone else.
