This seems to have to do with the patch paul_3_20.7. Do you
still get the crash if you back out that patch?

To back out the patch use 'patch -p0 -R < paul_3_20.7' .

It would be good to understand the mechanism of the crash.
Can anyone else reproduce it?

Would the general stability of the engine be improved if we backed this
patch out before the 3.4 for release?

We could put it back in after 3.4.

I tested 3.3.20 and didn't find any crash, so all the patches in 3.3.20 should be OK. I would suspect patch AFTER 3.3.20.
