Almost certainly the same thing as SOS, Sum of Opponents' Score.

More over four of the wins for both programs were against the same
opponents, the only difference was that Many Faces got to meet TSGO
whereas GNU Go met Martha. Many Faces only placed ahead due to a
little bit more luck with the pairing.

I don't agree. GNU Go can beat any of the top commercial games
occasionally. In 21st Century Cup in 2001 GNU Go won against Wulu.
Recent tests by max-d shows GNU Go winning about one game in three
against Go++.
