There may be tools around, however, that intelligently handle native SGML to make the text readable on screen but I don't know of any off the top of my head.
Simply type sgml2html in a shell (provided you have installed it). If not, search freshmeat for the sources. Didn't Lyx interprete SGML? And, AFAIK, it was a planned feature in AbiWord too.
