I ran gmPregCalc.py standalone and it wouldn't let me exit the
widget - there was no standard way of doing so short of
kill -TERM.

Re your problem with the generated image data I would suggest
to write a small encoder that takes a file and dumps the
encoded data to stdout. IMHO we would put icon data into the
approprate files as has happened with quite a few plugins
already.

predefined list of images, converts them and appends them to
the approprate source files - if one so wishes.

At one point I wanted to do this but haven't gotten around to
it due to time constraints. BTW, Richard's the one who's got
the current tool for image data generation.
