I just read a post on e-drug about the current (?) effort to change
Australian script generation software (Medical Director ?) to
point doctors to (cheaper) generics first. One
counter-argument was that with changing the exact brand of a
drug patients may get confused over how many pills to take
when and thus over-/underdose. One proposed measure to
safe-guard against that was that in such cases doctors can
_still_ prescribe a particular brand as opposed to a generic
by ticking the appropriate box (btw, we got this same
situation in Germany now).

So, what does all this have to do with GnuMed, you may ask. I
just wanted to point out that this is one perfect example of
where the "cookie" attribute in the "cfg_item" table comes in
handy. It clearly sucks to *have to* manually re-decide whether
to tick the appropriate box whenever a patient comes in. So,
one would stick the patient ID into the cookie and upon script
generation GnuMed would evaluate the cookie to find out whether
we ticked the box last time around.

Just an example ...
