Still mucking round with Arch - am up to getting the printer going:

Problem:no noise from the printer which works in the windows partition on the
same machine.

At the risk of being told RTFM I enclose more info below:

I've installed footmatic/ghostscript/cups/downloaded the ppd files,
started /etc/rc.d/cups start

The kernel is 2.6.3 I compiled from scratch and have gleaned the following
from my system:

----------------------
modules loaded
----------------------
address@hidden richard]# lsmod
Module Size Used by
lp 8484 0
parport_pc 19708 2
parport 22880 2 lp,parport_pc

These seem to be in /dev

address@hidden dev]# ls -al lp*

   Canon_Plain CANON BJC 4300 - CUPS+Gimp-Print v4.2.6-rc2
   Description:

   Printer State: idle, accepting jobs.

Sending test page and checking jobs:

Any help in getting an output more than appreciated.

Great distro despite the learning curve for an non-it educated person such as
myself.

Regards and thanks in anticipation

Richard
