I agree XUL is an under-used technology, hopefully with Firefox taking 
off this will change.

Can I suggest PyXPCOM 
(http://www.mozilla.org/catalog/architecture/xpcom/pyxpcom/)
which would essentially let you use the gnumed business objects directly.
